Son of former Premier League striker received harrowing messages after FA Cup match

Following on from Tamworth Football Clubs historic FA Cup 3rd Round Tie against Tottenham Hotspurs, ‘The Lambs’ striker Chris Wreh was subject to online racial discrimination sent via direct message on Instagram.
A statistic from the Kick It Out Campaigns website reports that during the 2018/19 football season, the organisation were sent 159 unique reports of discrimination taking place on social media with 62% of these incidents involving racism.
The American born striker refused to play for his club in their most recent fixture in the Birmingham Senior Cup after the club failed to properly support him following the incident. Wreh stated in his own social media post that it took the club 36 hours to make any form of contact with the player as they hoped to deal with the matter internally. The striker publicly addressed his respect for his manager who had supported him throughout the issue however he also explained his disappointment over how long it took his side to make a public statement.
The incident itself took place on the social media platform Instagram where an individual sent the son of former Arsenal striker Christopher Wreh a direct message using racial slurs and demanding back his £20 he had lost on a bet. Chris himself has addressed the way the situation has been handled saying
“I cannot agree with or condone this approach.
”If these incidents are kept in-house, they will never be addressed.”
Since this article was initially published, Wreh has stuck to his word and has not featured in the matchday squad for the Vanarama National League sides past five matches.
