This past weekend saw a team from the fifth tier of domestic football take on a Premier League Giant. Tamworth played host Tottenham Hotspurs in what can only be described as the biggest game in the Staffordshire sides history.
A player who has caught the eyes of many was Tamworth’s 22-year-old winger Beck-Ray Enoru.
The forward began his semi-professional career in 2020 with Aylestone Park Football Club before moving from the Leicester based side to join Barwell. In the latter stages of last season, Enoru made the jump from the Southern League Premier Central side to join The Lambs in March 2024.
Sunday’s fixture started with the TV cameras fixed on Enoru as he hoisted up a team mate on his shoulders to tape up a hole in the net before kick-off.
Once the fixture came to a close, Spaniard Pedro Porro decided to off some words of encouragement to Enoru who spends his week days working as a Customer Service Assistant at the fashion retailer Zara.
At full-time the young star lifted the lid on his conversation with the full back explaining:
“He came over to me at the end and said I played well and was too quick for him so I’ll take that compliment from a Premier League player.”
In addition to it being a momentous occasion in the clubs history, it was also an occasion of a similar size for Enoru with many of his family and friends back in Cameroon watching him for the first time on TV whilst his close family were there in person for the first time to watch him pull on the Tamworth shirt.
Even after receiving compliments from such an established player, Enoru paid homage to his previous club Barwell and his current manager Andy Peaks for his success.
He said: “It goes a long way some of my team mates Brady Hickey and Deen Master as well as the former manager Ian King taught me some great things and since coming to Tamworth Andy Peaks has been really good to me.”
